Joining TechQuarter three years ago, Dan has made significant progress and is an example of growth within the company.

Whether the tasks are simple or complex, he handles them with autonomy and confidence. The impact he has had on the projects he has been assigned to is substantial; he has managed to translate client needs and deliver everything on time.

Currently, he is juggling two projects and successfully tackling all of their requirements.

In his free time, he has developed a new passion: Game Development, and he’s starting to pave the way for his first computer games.

Get to know more about him in this month’s Colleague Spotlight

[BC]: What do you find most exciting about software development and what led you to choose this career path?

Dan Clujescu [DC]: I had my first encounter with programming in high school. I enjoyed finding solutions to the problems we were given then, but it felt a bit lifeless and shapeless. Many years later I found myself developing frontend which gave that problem solving component a more practical component. It was closer to creating an experience for a user in a real life scenario rather than generating an abstract output.

[BC]:What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on so far in TechQuarter, and what made it rewarding?

[DC]: It was a new project with a lot of different functionalities packed in a very dense layout.
Every new feature was different from the previous one and that gave me the opportunity to constantly learn and improve.

[BC]: What would a day in your life as a software developer look like?

[DC]: I usually wake up just before the first meeting, I put on a t-shirt and run my fingers through my hair to look presentable for the meeting. Luckily I usually only have meetings in the morning so after I’m done with the daily status updated I can work uninterrupted. Sometimes there is something to clarify with one of my colleagues, but that goes smoothly and we are usually done withing 10 to 15 minutes. After finishing what I intended for that day, I deploy the newly developed functionality so my colleagues can take a look too if they wish and I set out to the gym. After training I tend to my other responsibilities while making sure I’m eating enough food and staying hydrated. I usually end the day by playing video games.

[BC]: In the ever-evolving field of technology, how do you keep your skills sharp and stay up-to-date with industry trends?

[DC]: I mostly keep up to date with the technologies I work with, but I also follow some YouTube channels which create technical content, such as Fireship.

[BC]: Looking towards the future, which emerging web technologies or trends are you most excited about and potentially looking to work with?
What are your predictions in this area for the next 3-5 years?

[DC]: WebGPU seems like a really promising project with tons of applications. I’m not sure I have to patience to pick up graphics programming, but I would like to try it someday.

[BC]: What piece of advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a developer?

[DC]: Just start building something. It doesn’t have to be written perfectly from the first try. Make something, make it work then make it work better and so on. There are so many technologies and frameworks that starting is the most daunting task in learning how to code. Start small, solve the issues and get better and more knowledgeable incrementally.

[BC]: Has any movie, book, or TV series sparked your interest lately?

[DC]: After making fun of people watching anime for years now, I finally tried watching Full Metal Alchemist and the show is pretty cool.

[BC]: Is there an activity that helps you relax and unwind?

[DC]: Weight training usually helps me relax, but sometimes it stresses me too.

[BC]: Fun Fact: Can you share a fact about yourself that not many people know?

[DC]: I recently started learning game development. Be ready to buy my game when it releases on the 16th of May 2057.
