Bianca Cornaciu [BC]: What do you find most exciting about software development and what led you to choose this career path?
Petre Lucuț [PL]: My journey into software development started with a mix of curiosity and creativity. I’ve always been fascinated by how technology shapes our world, and front-end development, in particular, felt like the perfect blend of logic and design. The idea that I could build intuitive, visually appealing, and highly functional web applications drew me in. Over time, my passion only grew as I learned new technologies and frameworks, collaborated with talented teams, and saw the direct impact of my work on users.
[BC]: What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on so far in TechQuarter, and what made it rewarding?
[PL]: Every project presents its challenges, whether it’s a complex system like a niche CRM or a simple chatbot widget. I enjoy tackling each one, as they push me to think critically and innovate. The most challenging yet rewarding projects are those I’ve built from scratch, defining architecture, making key technical decisions, and seeing an idea evolve into a fully functional application. No matter the complexity, the real satisfaction comes from solving problems, learning, and delivering something impactful.
[BC]: What would a day in your life as a software developer look like?
[PL]: A typical day as a software developer starts with a good cup of coffee and catching up on tech news or newsletters. Then, I go through my work emails and plan the day ahead. Most of my workday is spent attending meetings, writing code, doing code reviews, and collaborating with the team to solve challenges and improve our projects. After work, I switch gears to family time, whether it’s spending time with my little daughter, reading a book, or enjoying outdoor activities. Balancing work and personal life helps keep me motivated and creative.
[BC]: In the ever-evolving field of technology, how do you keep your skills sharp and stay up-to-date with industry trends?
[PL]: I already mentioned that I start my day by reading tech news, but I also stay up-to-date by following key personalities in my tech stack on Medium and YouTube. Their insights help me keep pace with new frameworks, best practices, and industry trends. Beyond that, I enjoy hands-on learning and experimenting with new technologies. I think curiosity is just as essential as keeping up with the latest trends.
[BC]: Looking towards the future, which emerging web technologies or trends are you most excited about and potentially looking to work with?
What are your predictions in this area for the next 3-5 years?
[PL]: I’m excited about the advancements in web performance, AI-driven development, and the evolution of frameworks that make building complex applications more efficient. In the next 3-5 years, I see AI playing a bigger role in development, not just for automation but for enhancing collaboration between developers and machines. I also expect web applications to become even more interactive and immersive, with better integrations of WebGPU, real-time collaboration tools, and edge computing for faster performance.
[BC]: What piece of advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a developer?
[PL]: My advice would be to stay curious and embrace continuous learning. Start by building projects, whether big or small, because hands-on experience will teach you more than anything else. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek feedback, or make mistakes. Failure is part of the journey, and every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. And most importantly, enjoy the process!
[BC]: Has any movie, book, or TV series sparked your interest lately?
[PL]: I’m currently reading Atomic Habits by James Clear, which has been eye-opening in terms of how small habits can lead to significant changes. As for TV shows, I’m a fan of older ones, and Dr. House is a standout for me. It’s a great mix of problem-solving, character complexity, and sharp dialogue.
[BC]: Is there an activity that helps you relax and unwind?
[PL]: To relax, I have a few activities I enjoy, like reading, playing football, board games, and enduro riding. However, the most unwinding activity for me is hiking. There’s something about being surrounded by nature and disconnecting from technology that helps me recharge.
[BC]: Fun Fact: Can you share a fact about yourself that not many people know?
[PL]: Despite my love for hiking and being outdoors, I’m actually afraid of heights and have a bit of claustrophobia! One memorable experience was visiting a lighthouse. I really enjoyed it, but I was terrified at the same time.
